Pilgrim's Strategies Across Our Value Chain
At Pilgrim’s, we are striving to enhance the sustainable performance and resiliency of our own operations. We also look to contribute to the broader sustainability of the food production system and collaborate with our customers on their sustainability pursuits. To help shape this vision, we have developed a Global Sustainability Strategy that mirrors our supply chain connections and addresses our material sustainability topics. This strategy guides the company’s actions across environmental, social, and governance topics and serves as the overarching framework through which our sustainability programs and initiatives are developed.

Our Priority Areas
To identify and prioritize the sustainability topics most relevant to our business and stakeholders, Pilgrim’s regularly reviews and updates our Corporate Materiality Analysis (CMA). Our approach incorporates feedback from a diverse range of external stakeholders—including NGOs, community organizations, customers, suppliers, government officials, academia, and industry trade associations—as well as internal perspectives.
In 2020, external consultants revisited our CMA to help us understand how stakeholder expectations were evolving. Through surveys and in-depth interviews, global stakeholders across our supply chain provided insights confirming our efforts in key areas.

Pilgrim’s conducted a 2022 survey and 2023 gap analysis of its annual disclosures against leading sustainability reporting regulations and frameworks like the European Union Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (EU CSRD), Global Reporting Initiative (GRI), Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP), and more. The insights from these exercises informed our sustainability reporting approach and were reviewed with global Pilgrim’s leaders across various departments.
In late 2024, Pilgrim’s participated in a double materiality assessment (DMA) under its parent company, JBS, to identify and assess sustainability-related impacts, risks, and opportunities across its value chain. This assessment was conducted in alignment with the European Sustainability Reporting Standards (ESRS) and broader evolving sustainability disclosure expectations. By considering both financial materiality and the company’s wider environmental and social impacts, the DMA will inform the continuous enhancement of Pilgrim’s sustainability strategy and support compliance with emerging global and regional reporting requirements, including the EU CSRD.
Ongoing stakeholder engagement remains central to our business. The Pilgrim’s Ethics Line is available for employee and third-party consultation, and we continuously gather feedback on material issues through one-on-one conversations and collaborative supply chain sustainability initiatives. This feedback helps inform our process, progress to goals, and annual performance which is, at minimum, annually reported to our board of directors for additional feedback and guidance. Select stakeholders were also involved in the development of this report.
To fully integrate our key priority areas and maintain a focus on continuous improvement, we have established global improvement goals that cover our operations in the U.S., Mexico, Europe, and the U.K.
