Our Approach

To maximize our impact, we focus our support on local causes that are vital to the communities in which we operate. We hold the belief that engaged citizens are the foundation of strong communities. Therefore, we motivate our team members to be proactive participants in their local communities. Each Pilgrim's facility collaborates with non-profit organizations to address critical needs within their respective areas. We offer opportunities for our team members to volunteer their skills and time, while our facilities provide financial backing to augment our influence. The human resources director and general manager at each facility spearhead philanthropy initiatives, offering both financial contributions and hands-on volunteering to foster robust communities.

Hometown Strong Test

In 2020, Pilgrim’s U.S. launched Hometown Strong, a US$ 20 million initiative to bring strength and stability to the communities where we live and work. Our facility management teams have been working with local leaders and organizations to determine how the funds can best help meet immediate and longer-term community needs. Projects include donating books and computers to underserved children, constructing warehouses for food pantries, funding high school agriculture programs, as well as developing land for playgrounds, community gardens, and team member housing.

Better Futures image

Better Futures

As part of our Hometown Strong initiative, Pilgrim’s U.S. is working to build the largest free college tuition program in rural America: Better Futures. Through this program, our team members and their child dependents have the opportunity to pursue their higher education dreams for associate degrees and trade certificates at community and technical colleges — tuition free. JBS USA and Pilgrim’s advisors will also help team members — many from first-generation American families — navigate the application process, which can be a deterrence to people applying to college for the first time. In 2024, 1,193 students enrolled in classes, earning over 7,416 academic credits, and 60 students graduated. JBS USA and Pilgrim’s invested US$1.27 million in the program.

We are building this program because we recognize and believe in the transformative power of higher education and the opportunities that come from education, coursework, and technical skill training. By removing the major financial barrier to college attendance, our communities can seek the education and training that will lead them to live more fulfilled lives.

Pilgrim's Tomorrow Fund image

Pilgrim's Tomorrow Fund

In 2019, Pilgrim’s U.S. launched the Tomorrow Fund, a scholarship program to support the collegiate pursuits of our team members and their direct dependents. Our vision is to become the best and most respected company in our industry, creating the opportunity of a better future for our team members. In line with this pursuit, we established this program to help our team members achieve their dreams and create a better future for themselves and their families through education. Every year, an eligible student from each of our 30 processing facilities across the U.S. and Puerto Rico, plus our corporate office, will be awarded a full-ride scholarship to an eligible university of their choice. Our goal was to invest US$2 million in the Pilgrim’s Tomorrow Fund scholarship recipients by 2025, which we exceeded in 2024 by more than US$360,000.

The Tomorrow Fund supports team members and direct dependents pursuing an initial bachelor’s degree, an accredited vocational-technical certification, or an associate degree. Award recipients participate in a Pilgrim’s mentorship program and could be offered internships for the summer at Pilgrim’s locations across the country.

At Pilgrim’s, we believe our people are our greatest strength. The Tomorrow Fund invests in the future, supports our local communities, and improves the lives of our team members and their families through empowerment, education, and personal growth.

Pilgrim's Mexico

Our focus continued to be supporting our team members and the communities where we live and work. A key part of our philanthropic effort was our ongoing Chicken Donations Program, which aids communities near our facilities. We donated US$136,000 in food donations to local associations, foundations, schools (for children living in poverty), nursing homes, and hospitals. Donations were made possible through DIF (National System for the Development of the Family) and municipal governments.

We also invest in community integration and social programs. Pilgrim’s Mexico demonstrated robust engagement in 2024, investing over US$900,000 in community integration events such as Family Day, Christmas parties, and 5K races, benefiting more than 44,000 people. Additionally, they provided educational scholarships and partnered with 18 social institutions to expand social programs alongside facility growth in southern Mexico. Pilgrim’s Mexico also donated 34 tons of food to communities in southern Mexico, demonstrating how operational growth can be leveraged to support local needs.

Pilgrim's Europe

Pilgrim’s Europe puts people and communities at the heart of everything it does - championing colleague development and celebrating the vital role the food industry plays in everyday life. Our dedicated community fund helps enrich lives across local areas, building on a strong foundation of charitable and educational initiatives. From long-standing support programs to new partnerships, Pilgrim’s Europe continues to extend its reach and deepen its impact. Supported projects range from educational school activities to local community organizations.

By teaming up with charities like Mind and Sands, Pilgrim’s Europe raises awareness and vital funds for causes that matter. The energy and creativity of employee-led activities - from coffee mornings to fitness challenges - ensure meaningful engagement and fundraising success. We have donated over 5 million meals to charities for redistribution to reduce food waste and support those facing food poverty. These contributions have reached homeless hostels, community cafes, domestic violence refugees, and breakfast clubs, providing vital support to those in need.
