Our Approach
As we work to decarbonize our business and supply chain, we are investing in a variety of programs from research to on-farm technologies. The investments include supporting sustainable grazing practices for ranchers, and wastewater treatment lagoon and biogas projects at our sites. Learnings from these projects will be implemented in our evolving net zero strategy that is rooted in our ability to use our size and scale for good while supporting producers on their operations.
In addition to our scope 3 investment, we have invested in more than 120 projects inside our own facilities to reduce scope 1 and 2 greenhouse gas emissions. The investment is directly tied to our net zero efforts but also aligned with the Sustainability Linked Bond our company issued in early 2021. We are working to meet the 30% scope 1 and 2 emission intensity reduction required by this bond. Please see visit our Investor Relations site for more information.
In 2023, our Moy Park and Pilgrim’s UK businesses will refile their existing Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) approved emissions reduction targets for revalidation according to SBTi’s Forests, Land, and Agriculture (FLAG) Science-Based Targets Setting Guidance, released in September 2022. In addition, Pilgrim’s Food Masters will also submit new SBTi targets for validation. Regardless of the evolving methodologies from third-party verifiers, Pilgrim's remains dedicated to setting and independently verifying near and long-term GHG emissions reduction targets based on sound science.
